Description
*Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults. *One in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Falling once doubles your chance of falling again.*There are a number of factors that may contribute to a fall including muscle weakness, and impaired standing balance. The good news is that there is strong evidence that regular participation in a strength and balance-based exercise program can significantly reduce an older adult's risk of falling. *This class will focus on several of these exercises, the majority of which will be performed in standing. It is highly recommended that the participant stand next to a sturdy table or kitchen counter to ensure safety when performing these exercises; a chair with armrests will be needed also.
