Description
This outing will benefit Veterans through our nonprofit, Operation Wild Horse. Operation Wild Horse is a program that allows Veterans and Active Duty to work with and ride Wild American Mustangs. Sponsorships and donations we receive through our Golf Outing will go directly to supporting the cost of running this program. It costs roughly $10,000 per horse per year to keep our program going, and we currently have 12 Mustangs and 5 Wild Burros. These animals have such an incredible effect on our Veterans and truly have the power to change their lives just by spending time with them. I asked one of our Navy Veterans, Erika, about her experience with our program and the impact that Liberty (the mustang she works with) has had on her life. She responded with, “Liberty is my knight in Onyx armor – combating the sorrows of my past, bestowing smiles upon my present, and endowing dreams of what we can accomplish together in the future. I owe [his sponsors] a lot of sincere gratitude. [They] are giving Liberty the means to lead a full life in service towards others. He means more than I can effectively write or say. I am eternally grateful!”
Through this program we are able to provide upwards of 1,600 free sessions to Veterans every year. That’s 1600 opportunities every year for us to reduce the Veteran suicide rate. Marine Corp Veteran Jack once told his mustang, “Thank you for giving me back my life”, and we think that his relationship with Peanut (the mustang he partners with) speaks volumes as to what this program can truly do. It gives Veterans a sense of purpose, and allows them to develop the camaraderie with their peers that other programs don’t.
Golfers will play 18 Holes with different activities and contests throughout the course. For example: Hole in One contest, Closest to the Pin contest, Longest Drive contests, as well as a golf ball cannon set up on one of the holes. Lunch and Dinner will be provided along with drinks throughout the day. We will have meat smokers set up on 2 different holes so that lunch will be served while golfers are making their way through the course.
