World Migratory Bird Day Celebration at Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge

Genoa City, WI  –  Do you know what birds dine on? Come and out and learn at World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) to be held from 9 to 11 am, Saturday May 11 at Turner Tract, Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, N541 County Highway H, Genoa City, WI.

Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge is hosting Mother's Day Eve Wildflower Walks and educational activities and displays on Why Mama Birds Like Insects. A self-guided walk through the refuge will feature the different habitat found at Turner Tract and their importance to birds.

“Protect Insects, Protect Birds” is the official slogan of World Migratory Bird Day 2024. Insects and their importance to migratory birds is the focus of this year’s WMBD, a global campaign that aims to raise awareness of migratory birds and the need for international cooperation to conserve them. 

Insects are the primary food parents feed their babies during the breeding season. Insects are also vital food for birds during their extensive journeys and greatly affect the timing, duration, and overall success of bird migrations.
